Over the weekend Steven Bahner, East Chapel Hill's stand-out prospect at center, received another offer, this time from Alabama. Coach Nick Saban has been looking for a replacement after losing last year's starting center to graduation, and has been looking for a prospect able to keep up the desired average of one-to-two fumbled snaps per game.
Saban and his scouts have given evaluations to many recruits, but as one of them stated, "These players are simply too sure-handed to play center for Alabama."
Later, Saban commented on the offer to Bahner. "Number one, you've got to look at his character. He's a great kid. I don't just sign people who go around on weekends sneaking their cars out and drinking, and I know Steven isn't that kind of kid. Number two, he has all the intangibles. He is fat, which is always a plus for an offensive lineman. But I also like his ability to make really racist remarks (this is Alabama) as well as fumble snaps. One of our most reliable plays on the goalline is the fumble-ruskie, and I know that Steven will be able to execute this play to perfection.
Bahner says he will make a visit to Alabama in coming weeks. His interest is currently medium to high.
